You tell me: holiday gaming...

What games will you be playing back home this holiday with the family and/or friends?  How many new rulesets will your grandma be subjected to?

'Tis the season...

Three seasonal items:

1)  Out of The Box Publishing, maker of the lovely '10 Days...' series of games is giving away games to needy kids.  All you have to do is go to there Facebook page and hit the Like button.  Pretty simple and some kid gets a game for Christmas.

2)  Love this.  Board Game Family has a great article about what games to give instead of the latest, dumbest version of Monopoly.  Did I mention I love this?

3)  I'm eyeing the chocolate versions of various classic board games like Scrabble and Clue.  Last year my sister gave me Monopoly which I was more than happy to consume.  I think I'll be passing these out to others this year.  It seems only appropriate.

It's a Small World after all...

My partner received Small World from Santa this year (well done, Santa!) and we have now played it 5 times since then. He won't let us play anything else right now and I guess I can see why. It's fun. A lot of fun. I will say, though, that despite the strategy I find it quite chaotic in the sense that your final score is often determined as much by the actions of others as by you. Still, I see myself giving it many more plays since History of The World has always been a favourite of mine but just takes way too long.

You tell me: Christmas

What games are you giving out for Christmas (if you celebrate) and why?

It's not December yet, is it?

So I can still buy Leo Colovini's Atlantis for myself, right, without feeling too guilty? Especially since it was less than 30 bucks, right?

My guilt is assuaged a little by the fact that the game is actually quite beautiful, a lot of fun, and has a surprising amount of depth.

Okay, no more gifts for me...
