Board games have definitely hit the mainstream and our little corner of Ontario is seeing it as well (must be since I moved here....) Two board game spots are opening and my co-blogger Daryl and good friend Ray are both going to be serving at one of them: Games on Tap in Waterloo. Family and friend previews start this weekend and I may try to sneak in and take some pictures. Best part? The place is licensed. AWE-SOME!
Check out their Facebook page here and the local news story here with info about both locations, the other being The Adventurers' Guild down in Kitchener.
(As an aside, sorry for the lack of posts - studying for actuarial exam numba 2 so drowning in Financial Mathematics till mid-August. Ugh.)

Board Game Bash 2014
Coming up on Feb 17th, 2014 (aka "Family Day" in Ontario, Canada) the Kitchener-Waterloo region will be having its first ever board game convention. The event is called the BOARD GAME BASH. Emmanuel Bible College will be hosting the event (100 Fergus Ave., Kitchener, ON). The event will feature some fun tournaments (including a Android: Netrunner tournament at 5pm) and lots of open gaming. We will have a board game lending library free of charge to play games at the event. Also, we will be highlighting some amazing games from our sponsors with some scheduled demo's. FunGamesCafe.Com will have a retail booth setup from 12-6pm so you can purchase that amazing game you just tried in the lending library or demo. FunGamesCafe is offering free pickup for anyone who wants to purchase a specific game and pick it up at the event. Also, the BOARD GAME BASH will be giving away some amazing door prizes at different times throughout the day. And hopefully we will arrange a free math trade for the event too.

Local teen game night...
If you've got teens (or are a teen) and you are local to the Kitchener-Waterloo area, my good friend Kelly has helped organize a free teen drop-in night on Wednesday evenings. And if Kelly's involved, I am pretty certain there will be a bunch of board games available for playing there.

The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz!!!! (Kitchener-Waterloo edition)
If you're near the Waterloo region of Ontario on Saturday, Sept. 29th, you should really come to the GCBGB event in Kitchener organized by DOM contributor Daryl. I'll be there helping out as well as contributing from my ridiculous wealth of sadly underplayed games. What is it, you say? From the website:
The Great Canadian Board Game Blitz (GCBGB) is a circuit of board game tournaments held at Canadian game conventions and retailers. You play several rounds of games over the span of eight hours, collecting points based on your finishing rank in each game. The finals are held each summer in Toronto at Fan Expo.Join the Facebook event page for more info the Kitchener event which is only $5 to enter in a LICENSED ESTABLISHMENT (best part!) or the main website for other times and locations throughout Canada.
Hope to see some of you there!!!

Local Kitchener-Waterloo game convention this weekend...
If you live in or near the lovely, slightly dull hamlet of the K-dub in southwestern Ontario, you might want to consider what you're doing this coming Saturday afternoon. A local group is hosting an all-day board game event KGBCon and they claim to have at least 60 people going, possibly upwards of a couple hundred. And it's 6 blocks from my house! Woot woot!
You can check out the deets here.
I'm hoping to make it at least for a few hours in the afternoon.
