You tell me: your favourite FLGS...

Just had another great experience with the owner of http://www.germangames.com/.  Although his site is simple to look at, it is updated weekly, easy to search, very cheap prices, and his selection of new and obscure European titles is fantastic.  I just picked up London, Martin Wallace's latest from Treefrog Games, through him and didn't have to pay any of the extra shipping that would have occurred if I'd ordered directly from the UK.  Not only is his warehouse blocks from my house in Kitchener, Ontario, saving me on all my shipping costs, but he is a super-nice guy with a new kid and I'm happy to support him. AND HE KNOWS WHAT HE'S TALKING ABOUT!!!!  I get so annoyed with merchants who always recommend Settlers or Carcassonne to confused customers, not because they've played them, but because it's their biggest sellers.

What is your favourite games merchant website or Friendly Local Gaming Store (FLGS, get it?)  Why?  C'mon, give them some props and maybe some new business, too!

  1. My second-favourite games merchant in Canada (and I've been to a LOT of games stores) is also in Waterloo. JJ's Cards and Collectibles has a huge collection of big titles including all of Z-man Games catalogue. They don't carry the really obscure stuff, though. Their prices are also awesome. Games must just be cheaper here in the Waterloo region...

  2. The one that I love and prefer is Time Well Spent (http://www.timewellspentgames.com/). They're based out of Broomfield, CO (Denver area) and the owner Dave is a real class act--one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. He's also definitely a gamer...he's provided me with lots of advice and he knows what he's talking about!

They always have GREAT prices (and in fact, they'll even price match when you order a game if you just mention with your order where you found something cheaper!), and while living in Denver I could save on shipping costs and just go pick the games up. This was a double-edged sword, however...I bought WAY too many games (my wife says I have a disease! :)) and I still haven't played them all--I'll have to make a resolution like you did Eric--that's a great idea!

Time Well Spent is great though...he always has deals and sales on his website and pretty much always offers something free (other than just shipping) if you order over a certain amount of games. The only thing that sucks about them is that they're still there in Denver...and now I'm way up here in Alaska! I still always order from him though...because I really want to support him (and also because there's nothing really close up here!).

  3. I will celebrate Scifi City here in Orlando. It's a great store that has been around for decades (way back in the day it was called 'Enterprise 1701'). Friendly service, huge gaming area, all genre of game types and very good board game selection. The only draw back is that they sell at MSRP and that is a tough choice since Coolstuff Inc. is down the street. Coolstuff on the other hand is very awful as a store front and is the complete opposite. But, thay have the prices that are so much more wallet friendly. Agh, tough choices...

  4. First of all, you're so lucky that germangames.com is in your area. I usually order from him as well, but my latest order came from Fun Games Cafe because he could get a game that germangames could not. I thought it was a good excuse to try a different retailer and see how the experience was. Not bad. I didn't like having to go through paypal to send payment and the price per unit was a few dollars higher, but I got super deals on the LOTR expansions so maybe it all evens out.
